Life is to be celebrated!
Bomba y plena music developed as a means of political and spiritual resistance among enslaved peoples brought to the Caribbean from West Africa, to work on the island’s sugar plantations In the 17th century.
The music and dance was a way to express the frustrations of harsh labor conditions, but it was also a way to celebrate the joy of forming and building community during an oppressive time.
Like our Afro-Puerto Rican culture, which is steeped in rich traditions of music and dance, it's our hope here at
Bomba Coquito, that our coquito bring you joy and warms your soul.
Nicknamed Bomba Leche, by a childhood friend, I was born in New York, where Bomba Coquito is based.
Our coquito was birthed from a family recipe, inspired by my abuelito. Our family has enjoyed coquito for as long as I can remember. Typically, it's a beverage that's made during the holidays and shared with family and friends—but I wanted to capture that nostalgic feeling of family and celebration, so I created Bomba Coquito to be enjoyed all year round.
It is my sincerest wish that our coquito reminds you that any day is worth celebrating, and to enjoy life and live it to its fullest!
